Budget Breakfast Meal Plan For Traveling With Kids To UK
This meal plan is based on a 4 night stay in London. Breakfast can be one of the trickiest meal to cover on holiday with kids in my experience. Younger kids can be hard to please in the mornings and if the journey has been rough they may not want to eat at all. I have 3 fail safe options that I have tried and tested time and time again as a regular traveller to the UK with kids.
Jump Ahead To....
1. Breakfast Can Be Expensive When Travelling With Kids
If you choose to go to a regular restaurant in a hotel while travelling with kids to the UK, you may find that the prices can add up. This post has three great suggestions to help to avoid wasting money. If a child is not hungry in the morning and is given a big plate of adult type food they could easily be put off. Not only is it a waste of money, its a waste of food and you may find that may have a ‘hangry’ child to deal with, a couple of hours later, while you are trying to enjoy the local attractions.
2. Choice and Flexibility
What most parents know is that their child will need flexibility in relation to the time that they eat breakfast while on holidays and a choice of something that they will actually eat. While on holidays my mantra has always been, ‘eat what you enjoy, you’re on vacation!’ With that in mind, we are not trying to win any health awards with the holiday meal plan. I have included Premier Inn, a self catering supermarket breakfast and a McDonalds option.
3. No Fuss Location
A no frills, no fuss location is best when eating your holidays with kids. If there is a requirement of excellent behaviour at all times during meals, it is likely to be a frustration experience for the children and the parents ( and may be the staff too!). Table manners do matter but perhaps leave that lesson for dinner time. In my chosen breakfast locations the pressure to be on ones best behaviour is not necessary.
4. Breakfast Budget And Meal Plan
While travelling, all of the meals required to cover the trip really can add up so finding the cheapest options for meals like breakfast can really help to keep costs down. 6. Cheaper Options Are Not Always Cheaper
It is well worth looking into breakfast meal deal options at your destination. I was very surprised to see that eating breakfast at McDonalds each day was the same price as eating at Premier Inn. The options at Premier Inn far exceed the choice and variety offered at McDonalds. If you have children under 16 years of age, they can eat for free if you are ordering a full Premier Inn breakfast. I have used this option myself and can vouch for it. While travelling with my very tall teenage son ( who ate way more than me by the way), he ate for free whilst I paid £9.50 for a buffet breakfast. Options for the buffet included;
- Cereals
- Juices
- Pastries
- Bacon
- Sausages
- Beans
- Eggs
- Toats
- Fruit
- Yogurt
- Breads
This option made sense to us while travelling as everyone in the family could choose what they liked to eat. No one was under pressure to eat too much for fear of wasting money or food. The atmosphere in Premier Inn is reflexed and family friendly making it a great option for a budget breakfast while on holiday with your kids. Other hotels and venues may offer this kind of family friendly option for breakfast and other meals that is well worth checking out while travelling with kids.
