Food & Dietary Disclaimer

The recipes and food information published on Mrs Hawkins House are intended to provide practical cooking ideas, recipes and general information for home cooks.

I am a home cook sharing recipes that I make for myself and my family. I am not a doctor, dietitian, nutritionist or allergy specialist, and the information on this website should not be considered medical, nutritional or specialist dietary advice.

Gluten-Free Recipes and Adaptations

Some recipes on Mrs Hawkins House include gluten-free ingredients or suggestions for adapting ordinary recipes using gluten-free alternatives.

These suggestions are intended as helpful cooking guides. They are not a statement or guarantee that a particular recipe is suitable for someone with coeliac disease, a food allergy, an intolerance or any other medical or dietary requirement.

Brands and individual ingredients vary. Product formulations, manufacturing processes and allergen information can also change over time.

If you need to avoid gluten, it is important to check the labels and allergen information for every ingredient and brand you choose and decide whether they are appropriate for your own individual dietary requirements.

Cross-Contamination

Where avoiding gluten or another allergen is medically necessary, ingredients are only one part of food safety.

Cross-contamination can occur during manufacturing, storage and food preparation. Kitchen equipment, utensils, baking tins, chopping boards, work surfaces, appliances and storage containers may also need to be considered.

Mrs Hawkins House cannot verify the manufacturing or handling processes used by individual food manufacturers and cannot guarantee that a particular ingredient, brand, preparation method or finished dish will be free from gluten or another allergen.

Choosing Ingredients

Where I mention a particular ingredient or brand, I am sharing what I have used in my own cooking. This should not be interpreted as confirmation that the product is appropriate for your particular dietary requirements.

Recipes and product formulations can change, so please check current packaging and allergen information rather than relying solely on information contained in an older recipe or article.

Substituting an ingredient with a gluten-free alternative also does not, by itself, guarantee that the finished dish will be suitable for someone who needs to follow a strict gluten-free diet.

Food Allergies and Other Dietary Requirements

The same principle applies to other food allergies, intolerances and dietary requirements.

If you or someone you are cooking for has a food allergy, intolerance, coeliac disease or another condition requiring dietary management, please check the suitability of all ingredients and preparation methods before making or serving any Mrs Hawkins House recipe.

If you are uncertain about what foods are appropriate for you, please seek advice from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Further Gluten-Free Guidance

For specialist information about coeliac disease, gluten-free food preparation, food labelling and managing cross-contamination, you may find the following organisations helpful:

Coeliac UK

Celiac Disease Foundation

Celiac Society of Ireland

NB: Please follow the individual medical and dietary advice provided to you by your own healthcare professionals over and above any suggestions on this website.

General Food Safety

Recipes on Mrs Hawkins House are prepared and tested in a home kitchen. Cooking times, temperatures and results can vary depending on ingredients, equipment, appliances, portion sizes and individual cooking environments.

Readers should follow appropriate food hygiene practices and current food-safety guidance when storing, preparing, cooking, cooling, reheating and freezing food.

Where meat, poultry, eggs or other potentially hazardous foods are used, please ensure that food is cooked, stored and reheated safely before serving.

Responsibility for Dietary Choices

Mrs Hawkins House provides recipes and cooking information for general informational purposes. Each reader is responsible for checking that the ingredients, products and preparation methods they choose are appropriate for themselves and for anyone they are cooking for.

Nothing published on Mrs Hawkins House should replace individual medical, dietary or food-allergy advice from an appropriately qualified professional.
