Chocolate Mousse-Beginner Recipe

This is a very simple recipe designed to help build confidence for beginner cooks. It tastes luxurious but is very easy to make.

Ingredients
  

  • 200 g Chocolate 7 oz
  • 300 mls Heavy cream/Double cream 1 ¾ cups

Method
 

  1. Heat a third of of the heavy cream/double cream till it’s just steaming. ( just under one cup or 100mls of cream)
  2. Add the chocolate to the hot cream. Take the cream off the heat. Allow it to melt in the hot cream and mix after about 2 minutes till combined.
  3. In a jug, whip the remaining 200 ml heavy cream/double cream to soft peaks
  4. Allow the melted chocolate mixture to cool slightly ( for about 2 minutes) and then mix the whipped cream into the melted chocolate mixture gently until smooth and combined
  5. Spoon into small bowls or glasses.
  6. Place in the fridge for about 2 hours until set
  7. Top with a piece of chocolate or other toppings of your choice before serving.

Notes

Do not boil the cream. The hot water should be steaming, not bubbling.
Do not rush melting the chocolate.
Let chocolate cool slightly before adding whipped cream.
If it looks loose, don’t panic as it will set in the fridge.
Keep refrigerated and use within 2 days.
Not suitable for freezing.
Suitable for topping with preferred cold toppings.
Goes well with a scoop of vanilla icecream.
